3 example scenarios

Explore a regular withdrawal budget, including an estimated split between distributions and asset sales.

$600,000 portfolio; $2,000 monthly, increasing with 2.5% inflation; 5% assumed total return, 0.25% additional costs and 2% distribution yield; 30 years.

1. Plan your withdrawals

Inflation & additional assumptions · 2.5% inflation · 0% costs
Downturn timing comparison · Optional

The comparison adds the same drop at the start or at the beginning of the final year. Both otherwise use the same return assumptions. Without withdrawals, the two drop paths have the same ending value. These are hypothetical paths, not historical returns or probabilities.

Withdrawal model assumptions

Monthly total returns include distributions. Additional costs are deducted proportionally before month-end withdrawals. Annual withdrawal budgets are divided by 12. Fixed spending can rise once per year with inflation; percentage spending resets from each year’s opening value. Distribution yield estimates how funded withdrawals are split between distributions and sales, without increasing total return. Unused distributions remain invested. The model caps withdrawals at available assets and tracks any shortfall. Results exclude taxes, account restrictions and random market paths.
